Artist Biography

Born in 1966, Queens County NY, Chris' formal education in Physics and Occupational Health has paralleled his unofficial education in black and white photography and philosophy, which all began in 1987 while an undergraduate at SUNY Fredonia under the tutelage of Terry Lindquist, a student of Minor White, Ralph Hattersley, Charles Arnold, and Beaumont Newhall at RIT.
She died on the day I was born
And questions became nonsense.
Birth, death, truth, escape.
Her angel looked upwards
From the paper and stone documents.
Language forever abused.
I am fortunate if an image evokes feelings
distinct from the apparent subject. A presence can suddenly be revealed
within an image which was not previously recognized. The initial
recognition follows the realization that it's always been there. It may be death
or life
or fear or happiness recognized for the first time, revealed through unknown aspects inside an image.
When you look away nothing is lost because what was revealed was always there.
These aspects are recognized within the context of the deeply familiar which is so
rarely noticed above the background din and so personal that it can only be shown
and rarely spoken. Turn you head away again, and again; nothing is lost.
The spirit in an image becomes recognized and what is revealed is that it was
always there.
