The 550 and 850 variants remove hydroquinone
from the Vestal formula and increase the amount of Metol and borax as
per a recommendation from Anchell and Troop. The 850 is an higher
contrast variant with shorter development time using 8g/l of Metol.
It is also recommended by Vestal that solution B be extended to 10
minutes for more development. A question is if the emulsion
can absorbe enough developer for extended development?
Agitation varies - continuous agitation is recommended for two bath development and is indicated in the chart. |
Development Stats: Two reel stainless steel tank, inversion and twist agitation.
1. No Pre-soak when using two bath development 2. Solution A 3. Solution B 4. Stop with water, four dumps. 5. Fix A 3 minutes, agitation first 30 sec then for 10 sec every subsequent 30 seconds. 6. Fix B 3 minutes same agitation 5. Film washer - 15-30 minutes 6. Hang and sprits with DI water
Densitometry - Measurements taken from center of negative using Macbeth TD-502.
Exposures - All exposures were taken using a flat painted grey surface in sunlight.
